Breathing Meditation

This is a simple breathing exercise that can be done almost anywhere, at any time. With regular practice you will be surprised at how much it can calm you during a stressful, anxiety, angry, or sad moment. I do this exercise almost daily while walking, in the gym, in the car, or honestly pretty much anywhere. It’s so simple nobody knows you’re doing it.

Take a deep breath to a count of 4, hold for a count of 4, and then breathe out for a count of 4. Repeat this 3 times.

Do not continue if you become light headed for any reason.

A more advanced version I do uses imagery and words along with the breathing technique. The advanced technique is as follows.

Take a deep breath to a count of 4 in through your nose while imagining the color green for healing, and say a word like Calm, Peace, Tranquility, Love or Joy. Hold the breath for 4 seconds while feeling this positive emotion in your body. Then exhale out through your mouth imagining the color red for negative emotions and say a word like Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Hate, or Sadness. See the negative emotions leaving your body and into God’s light to be cleansed. Repeat 3 times.

The more you practice this daily, the more effective this meditation is when you really need it to count. I also use this exercise to slow my breathing to fall asleep on nights I may feel a little restless.

My goal with these techniques is to help people learn to slow down and be peaceful and kind to one another. There is no reason to dim someone else’s divine light because yours was dimmed for whatever reason that day. Do as you would have others do unto you!
